Why did the Dementors make Harry faint?
"The reason Harry blacked out during dementor attacks is because this act of selfless love by Lily causes Voldemort unendurable pain whenever he experiences it. Like when he tried to possess Harry or touch him via Quirrel. Harry blacks out because one part of his soul is in agony while the other is not.
He had been through losing his parents, the abuse from his Aunt and her family and literally had not a single happy memory till he came to Hogwarts. And since Dementors had the most to get out of Harry (due to his horrifying past), they were driven to him more than anyone for a soul-satisfying meal of Harrys happiness.
Harry Potter was particularly affected by the Dementors due to the murder of his parents, to which his teacher, Professor Lupin, assured him was "nothing to do with weakness", and that "the Dementors affect you worse than the others because there are horrors in your past that the others don't have."
He was consumed by thoughts of Voldemort and of death. As the dementor took hold of Harry & forced him against the wall, it tried to administer the Kiss that would end him & Dudley, Harry thought of Ron and Hermione.
Harry's fear of the boggart's shape is what made him faint, not the shape itself. Some people will see a snake and become paralyzed with fear, break out in a cold sweat, or even faint. The snake has no evil intent; it's not attacking, it's just existing.
He fears them more because he has to relive the memory of his parents' deaths each time he encounters them. We have nothing to fear but fear itself.
Harry describes Umbridge to Sirius Black, saying that she's vile enough to be a Death Eater, despite not being one. Umbridge is also depicted to be a prejudiced person, despising half-breeds and Muggle-born witches and wizards to the point of firing Hagrid due to his half-giant birth status.
Ekrizdis is a minor yet pivotal antagonist in the Harry Potter universe. He was an immensely evil wizard who lived in the 15th century in medieval Britain, it is believed he was either the creator of the Dementors or that his insane experiments and torture caused the Dementors to first manifest.
Dementors aren't technically alive, like Boggarts or Poltergeists. JKR said, "You cannot destroy Dementors, though you can limit their numbers if you eradicate the conditions in which they multiply, ie, despair and degradation."
How was Sirius not affected by Dementors?
Harry's godfather Sirius Black endured 12 years in solitary confinement in Azkaban for a crime he did not commit. By focusing on his innocence he was able to survive and escape the merciless Dementors, and would later narrowly avoid the Dementors' Kiss with help from his godson.
Without thinking, Harry casts a Patronus in their direction, and he catches the Snitch easily, winning the game. Only afterwards does he discover that the Dementors were, in fact, several Slytherins, including Malfoy, dressed in cloaks with the intention of unseating Harry.

The Dementors feed off of despair. Voldemort's army spreads it, allowing the dementors to breed. The Dementors take care of the Death Eaters enemies, taking their souls, and demoralizing the rest of the population. It's mutually beneficial to both of them.
Dolores Umbridge
Indeed, she was the one who sent Dementors to attack Harry in Little Whinging. And obviously it didn't end there – Umbridge's list of mean tricks was about as long as her list of Educational Decrees.
When the Hogwarts Express was en route to Hogwarts, a group of Dementors stopped and boarded the train to conduct a search part-way through the trip and began searching for signs of Black. The train became very cold and dull while they searched the train.
Although Muggles could not see Dementors, they were affected in a way similar to wizards and witches, becoming depressed when near them.
Voldemort intentionally made six Horcruxes, but when he used Avada Kedavra on Harry, he unintentionally created a seventh Horcrux. Instead of dying, Lily's love for Harry created a counter 'curse' known as Sacrificial Protection and saved Harry.
Lily's Protection In Voldemort's Blood Saved Harry
When Lord Voldemort returned Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he used Harry's blood - which is partially how Harry survived Avada Kedavra in the forest.
When the Dark Lord used Avada Kedavra for the final time in the Harry Potter series, the spell deflected due to Harry's ownership of the Elder wand, killing Voldemort with his own signature spell. Following Voldemort's demise, the Unforgivable Curses were strictly deemed illegal by the Ministry of Magic.
Harry Potter - Dementors
Boggarts come into play in a major way in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It is in this story where Dementors are also a major factor for the first time and it's no surprise that they are Harry's biggest fear.
What is the ridiculous spell in Harry Potter?
In Harry Potter, Riddikulus is a spell used against Boggarts. For the magic to work, you have to think of something funny while casting it. If it works, it makes the boggart take the shape of whatever you were thinking of and because Boggarts feed on fear, they're defeated by laughter.
To Be Confronted By A Dementor
The confrontation with a Dementor on the Hogwarts Express made Harry realize that this creature was his deepest fear in a corporeal form. The Dementors made his inner feelings of hurt and abandonment come to life, along with bringing back his worst memories.
Peter Pettigrew (a.k.a. Wormtail) is the only Death Eater known to have been in a House other than Slytherin (Gryffindor) while at Hogwarts. There, he was a close friend of Sirius Black, James Potter, and Remus Lupin, although he was the least intelligent and least talented of the group.

That makes Hagrid one of just three non-Death Eaters - the others being Dumbledore himself and Horace Slughorn - who associated the handsome and charismatic Tom Riddle with the monstrous Lord Voldemort.
IT WASN'T ORIGINALLY A PRISON
Well, that's because originally, Azkaban was a fortress built by the sorcerer Ekrizdis, who himself was a powerful and insane practitioner of the Dark Arts. Ekrizdis actually lured, tortured, and killed Muggle sailors there up until he died and the concealment charms faded.
Rowling has revealed that the Dementors were inspired by her own feelings of depression.
Reproduction. Dementors breed by surrounding themselves with large amounts of a special fog which they exude. New individuals, already fully formed, will gradually congregate from the mist.
We're all on a spectrum, nobody is immune to the effect of the Dementors, no matter how privileged or happy their lives have been.
No. I don't even think they're 'alive' in the HP universe. Only a Patronus is effective: As a pure, protective magical concentration of happiness and hope (the recollection of a single talisman memory is essential in its creation) it is the only spell effective against Dementors.
Why is a Dementors kiss worse than death?
The Dementor's Kiss is generally considered to be a punishment worse than death. Victims are left in what Muggles would call a Persistent Vegetative State: empty shells that are still alive but irretrievably "gone".
Sirius's intense love for James, his grief after James's death, and his anger towards Peter drove him to insanity, getting him locked up in Azkaban for crimes he never committed.
The Dementor's Kiss has only been used as punishment in rare cases. Sirius Black was supposed to receive the Dementor's Kiss in 1994 after his escape from Azkaban, but he narrowly escaped from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry before the punishment could be administered.
More than anyone else, I mean? Professor Lupin : Listen, dementors are among the foulest creatures to walk this earth. They feed on every good feeling, every happy memory until a person is left with nothing but his worst experiences.
Correctly suspecting that Sirius Black sent it, Hermione Granger reported it to Professor McGonagall. McGonagall then confiscated it for testing, in order to ensure Harry's safety.
Snape immediately calls Lupin to his office, insisting that the parchment is full of dark magic. Lupin carefully skirts around the subject, and tells Snape that it's probably just a joke shop item. Ron bursts in to gasp that he bought Harry all the items in his pockets ages ago.
Albus Dumbledore was one who had long disapproved of the use of Dementors as guards, not only because of the inhumane treatment of the prisoners in their power, but because he foresaw the possible shift in loyalties of such Dark creatures.
It also explains why the Dementors can look so human-like in general build -- as some of them may have even been once human. The possible origins of Dementors are still mysterious, but this theory finds a way to explain how they can spread so easily while also making them far more terrifying to consider.
The Dementors of Azkaban were under the employment of the Ministry until mid-1996, after which they joined Voldemort. By July 1996, all of the Dementors of Azkaban collectively rebelled against their employers (the Ministry) to join Voldemort, who offered them more victims and free rein across the country.
Every time Harry is confronted with a Dementor, he hears the screams of his mother as she is murdered by Lord Voldemort. A horrific memory to hear... He hears this moment because Dementors feed upon happiness and cause depression and despair in anyone near them.
Can squibs see Dementors?
Incidentally, can Squibs see Dementors? ' he added, looking left and right along the bench. 'Yes, we can!
Harry and Dudley maintained a relationship:
The once-estranged cousins made amends after Dudley's admission that Harry wasn't a “waste of space” and remained on “Christmas-card terms” as they grew older. However, their relationship never blossomed into a true friendship.
Until the climax of Prisoner of Azkaban, Lupin believed Sirius Black was guilty of murdering 12 Muggles, betraying Lily and James Potter, and killing Peter Pettigrew. He eventually discovered the truth — that Sirius was innocent, and the very much alive Peter was the traitor.
Sirius was arrested, accused of murdering Pettigrew and the muggles and of serving Voldemort, and was promptly thrown in prison by Barty Crouch, Sr. without receiving a trial. He spent the next twelve years in Azkaban, brooding over his friends' deaths and obsessing over Pettigrew's betrayal.
Professor Snape : I could do it, you know. But why deny the Dementors? They're so longing to see you... do I detect a flicker of fear? Ah, yes, the Dementor's Kiss.
Lupin explains that Harry is more deeply affected because Dementors work by extracting good memories, leaving nothing but the bad recollections, and Harry has a much grimmer history than anyone else.
The Dementor is simply unable to perform the kiss on a wizard who has a Horcrux. Voldemort is unaffected and has a good laugh at the silly Dementor.
Harry's godfather Sirius Black endured 12 years in solitary confinement in Azkaban for a crime he did not commit. By focusing on his innocence he was able to survive and escape the merciless Dementors, and would later narrowly avoid the Dementors' Kiss with help from his godson.
As Harry passes out, he is reminded for a fraction of a moment of his parent's death and of the moment when his mother died protecting him. That was his mother's scream from the night when she died and Harry kicked Voldemort's life out of him.
How did Harry survive the Dementors?
During the attack Harry Potter attempted to defend himself, Hermione, and Sirius with a Patronus Charm, but failed due to the sheer amount of Dementors. However, he and the others were saved by his future self, who had travelled back in time using Hermione's Time-Turner.
He rejected his family's pure-blood elitism and reverence for the Dark Arts. At Hogwarts, rather than be sorted into Slytherin like the rest of his family, Sirius was placed in Gryffindor. In contrast to his home life, Sirius greatly enjoyed life at Hogwarts, where he was inseparable from his best friend, James Potter.
Sirius Black is a convicted Death Eater who's trial exonerated many other Death Eater's due to his confession to using the Imperius Curse on all of them.
It states that they hear it inside their heads (as opposed to “outside”, aka by their ears), so a Sonorous is out. I think it is an extension of a form of Legimancy, which causes his voice to go directly into their minds. Perhaps, and probably, using dark magic.
While Dumbledore was a depressing death for Harry Potter to face as his only real father figure, the death of Sirius Black hit him the hardest. When Sirius first showed up in the pages of Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban, Harry thought the man was responsible for the death of his parents and wanted him dead.
helena bonham carter (played bellatrix), and emma watson (hermione) reportedly couldn't stop crying because it was so intense. the editors removed the sound because they were concerned it would frighten younger audiences.
He teaches Harry to recognise the Dementors for what they are - greedy, soulless, evil creatures - while also giving him the confidence and knowledge to fight back, by harnessing his happiest memories, another piece of advice I'll be following from now on.
A Dementor attempting a kiss on Sirius is witnessed in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, in which his soul is being sucked out his mouth in the form of a small, glowing, white dot, but the Dementors are fought off by Harry's Patronus before they can finish this.
That is, until Harry-from-the-future (who, it turns out, really does look like his Dad) saved them all by successfully casting an actual Patronus, which scattered Dementors like skittles before ending with a bow. As Dumbledore later told Harry: “'Prongs rode again last night. '” So that's that cleared up.
