Why does chocolate help with Dementors?
It's a clever bit of writing… in real life chocolate contains several chemicals, such as Phenylethylamine and Tryptophan, that are associated with the brain and induce feelings of happiness, contentment and the feeling of 'being in love.
Chocolate as a remedy
J.K. Rowling told us, 'the mood-enhancing properties of chocolate are well known in both the Muggle and wizard worlds. Chocolate is the perfect antidote for anyone who has been overcome in the presence of Dementors, which suck hope and happiness out of their surroundings.
So to quote the late great Remus Lupin, who without hesitation offered Harry Potter a bar of chocolate to ward off the effects of a dementor attack, "Eat this, you'll feel better." It's hard to argue with the man who could arguably be called the greatest defense against the dark arts teacher Hogwarts ever had, huh? ( ...
Chocolate as magic medicine
Physically and emotionally drained from a Dementor attack in the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry is given a massive chunk of chocolate by Professor Lupin. “Harry took a bite and to his great surprise felt warmth spread suddenly to the tips of his fingers and toes,” writes Rowling.
dementor's favorite food is cockroaches. To master its prey, the wasp injects a venom into a mass of nerves in the cockroach's belly.
He believed that chocolate was one of the best medicines for any ailment, be it physical or emotional. It's highly likely that Lupin was allergic to the very thing he loved to give to children and eat himself, because he was a werewolf.
For resilience. Just as many Muggles indulge in the odd sugary snack, lots of our favourite wizarding world characters also turned to confectionary and cakes for the occasional pick-me-up. The most obvious example of this was the use of chocolate to diminish the impact of a Dementor.
Chocolate is the perfect antidote for anyone who has been overcome in the presence of Dementors, which suck hope and happiness out of their surroundings. Chocolate can only be a short-term remedy, however. Finding ways to fight off Dementors – or depression – are essential if one is to become permanently happier.
The relationship between Half-Blood Wizard / Werewolf Remus Lupin and Muggle-born Witch Lily Evans is purely plantonic as the pair is close friends. Lily is the girlfriend to Remus' bestfriend James Potter.
Lupin never felt at ease about his love for Tonks, continuing to think that he was being cruel and selfish.
Did Lupin know Sirius was innocent?
Until the climax of Prisoner of Azkaban, Lupin believed Sirius Black was guilty of murdering 12 Muggles, betraying Lily and James Potter, and killing Peter Pettigrew. He eventually discovered the truth — that Sirius was innocent, and the very much alive Peter was the traitor.
Remus was turned by Fenrir Greyback, who sought revenge on his father for his unkind words about the werewolf community. The attack took place just before his fifth birthday, and although Lyall burst in and saved his son from death, the attack left Remus as a werewolf himself.
Dark chocolate is considered the best choice for period cramps primarily due to its higher cocoa content, which is rich in magnesium and antioxidants. Magnesium plays a vital role in muscle relaxation and reducing inflammation, which can help alleviate cramps during menstruation.
Reproduction. Dementors breed by surrounding themselves with large amounts of a special fog which they exude. New individuals, already fully formed, will gradually congregate from the mist. Dementors usually breed in large groups.
Ekrizdis is a minor yet pivotal antagonist in the Harry Potter universe. He was an immensely evil wizard who lived in the 15th century in medieval Britain, it is believed he was either the creator of the Dementors or that his insane experiments and torture caused the Dementors to first manifest.
There were many things to be frightened of in the Harry Potter stories, but when Voldemort wasn't around, Harry feared another deadly threat… The Dementors' Kiss is like something out of your most feared horror film: when the deadly Dementors suck out a victim's soul.
Bill is viciously mauled by the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback. Fortunately, as Fenrir was not transformed at the time, Bill did not become a werewolf, though Madam Pomfrey is unable to completely heal his face, and he remains permanently scarred.
Remus Lupin is a werewolf who was transformed as a child by a werewolf with a grudge against his family. J.K. Rowling has spoken about how she made Lupin a werewolf as a metaphor for stigmatized illnesses, such as HIV and AIDs, as a way of bringing to light the judgment ill people face.
Sirius was arrested, accused of murdering Pettigrew and the muggles and of serving Voldemort, and was promptly thrown in prison by Barty Crouch, Sr. without receiving a trial. He spent the next twelve years in Azkaban, brooding over his friends' deaths and obsessing over Pettigrew's betrayal.
Hermione had not packed any food in her magical bag, as she had assumed that they would be returning to Grimmauld Place that night, so they had had nothing to eat except some wild mushrooms that Hermione had collected from amongst the nearest trees and stewed in a billycan.
Which Muggle candy does Dumbledore like to eat?
Sherbet lemon is one of those foods where the name was changed between the UK and American books– in the UK books this treat is called sherbet lemon, and in the US versions, lemon drops. Whatever you call them, these hard candies are filled with a fizzy lemon powder (sherbet), and are a favourite of Dumbledore.
Dumbledore definitely had a sweet tooth and he could never help indulging in a few of his favourite sugary treats. Many of us can absolutely relate to that feeling.
It was impossible to return as a ghost, for the Kiss consumed the soul, and the soul of a person was required in order to become a ghost.
The incantation 'expecto patronum' is the best known defence against a dementor. “As a pure, protective magical concentration of happiness and hope (the recollection of a single talisman memory is essential in its creation) it is the only spell effective against Dementors.
The magical way to combat these awful creatures is to conjure a patronus, a creature that will fight off the dementors and cause them to flee. However, dementors are never really destroyed completely in the series, because depression isn't so easily defeated.
Throughout most of their time at Hogwarts, Lily Evans and James Potter seemed about as far from "soulmates" as two people could be.
The name Lupin is primarily a gender-neutral name of French origin that means Wolf-like.
Fujiko Mine: A cunning thief and Lupin's love interest. In Japanese, Fujiko was voiced by Eiko Masuyama, while in Italian, she was voiced by Piera Vidale.
Ron, Harry, and Hermione assume she is upset over Sirius' death, and Harry even suggests that Tonks may have been in love with him, which is why she's so crestfallen. It is only at the end of the book that we find that it is Lupin, rather than Sirius, who is the object of her affections.
Remus John Lupin, 38, was killed May 2, during the Battle of Hogwarts by known Death Eater, Antonin Dolohov. Lupin, a member of the Order of the Phoenix, was a former teacher of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. He left the position because of his status as a werewolf. He married Nymphadora Tonks in 1998.
Does Lupin ever sleep with Fujiko?
It should also be noted that unlike his anime version, Lupin is a ladies-man in the manga, with he and Fujiko having slept together numerous times.
Sirius Black is the oldest (We think)
We learned in The Deathly Hallows that James Potter was born on March 27, 1960. Remus Lupin's birthday is March 10, 1960, which obviously makes him just a hair older than his good friend. In 2015, she finally revealed – on Twitter no less – that Sirius Black was born on November 3.
Okay so, my understanding had always been that Snape found out that Remus was a werewolf during this incident that Lily is referencing — the whole Sirius telling Snape how to work the Willow, Snape going down to where Remus transforms, and James saving Snape from “whatever's down there” (presumably Remus as a wolf) ...
Remus is 13 years older than Tonks. He is born in 1960 and she is born in 1973.
While this is not mentioned in the book, the author has mentioned in an interview since its publication that Tonks was killed by her aunt Bellatrix Lestrange.
Simply put, Professor Severus Snape didn't trust Lupin, thought that he was helping Black into the Castle, and set the essay because he thought someone among the third years would be able to recognize he was a Werewolf.
Fenrir Greyback is, perhaps, the most savage werewolf alive today. He considers it as his mission to bite and to contaminate as many people as possible; he wants to create enough werewolves to overcome the wizards. Voldemort has promised him prey in return for his services.
Having a lot of dairy products is not the best idea, as it can cause cramping. Dairy products like milk, cheese, and ice cream contain arachidonic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid), which can increase inflammation and can intensify your period pain.
“Sweet food (as well as caffeine and alcohol) create chemicals in your body that increase your pain receptors making you feel worse. Trying to be conscious of eating lots of fruits and vegetables, plenty of water or herbal tea and regular meals will go a long way to reducing period pain and PMS,” says Kelly Mulhall.
The sugar cravings are usually down to changes in our hormones. Before our periods begin there is a drop in the hormone progesterone and a rise in oestrogen, which can cause blood sugar levels to drop. When blood sugar levels drop the brain sends signals to replenish sugar, and therefore cravings occur.
Is anyone immune to Dementors?
We're all on a spectrum, nobody is immune to the effect of the Dementors, no matter how privileged or happy their lives have been.
Ampulex dementor is a species of cockroach wasp native to Thailand, described in 2014 by Michael Ohl of the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, Germany.
Dementors held no true loyalty, except to whoever could provide them with the most people to feed on.
Is Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy? Yes, you can visit Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy. While it does not appear on the map, visiting Azkaban is part of an early sidequest that one of the four houses can access.
He also has a younger sister, Hildegarde, and a brother-in-law, Myron. His family is apparently in the strudel business.
IT WASN'T ORIGINALLY A PRISON
Well, that's because originally, Azkaban was a fortress built by the sorcerer Ekrizdis, who himself was a powerful and insane practitioner of the Dark Arts. Ekrizdis actually lured, tortured, and killed Muggle sailors there up until he died and the concealment charms faded.
The Dementor's Kiss has only been used as punishment in rare cases. Sirius Black was supposed to receive the Dementor's Kiss in 1994 after his escape from Azkaban, but he narrowly escaped from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry before the punishment could be administered.
Lupin explains that Harry is more deeply affected because Dementors work by extracting good memories, leaving nothing but the bad recollections, and Harry has a much grimmer history than anyone else.
A Dementor is a gliding, wraith-like dark creature, widely considered to be one of the foulest to inhabit the world. Dementors feed on human happiness and thus generate feelings of depression and despair in any person in close proximity to them.
Remus Lupin: Wolf
Throughout the films, several characters cast patronuses that don't take a discernable form. Remus Lupin (David Thewlis) is one example. He repels the dementor on the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with an incorporeal patronus.
What gets rid of Dementors?
One of the most powerful defensive charms known to wizardkind, the Patronus can also be used as a messenger between wizards. As a pure, protective magical concentration of happiness and hope (the recollection of a single talisman memory is essential in its creation) it is the only spell effective against Dementors.
The Dementor's Kiss is generally considered to be a punishment worse than death. Victims are left in what Muggles would call a Persistent Vegetative State: empty shells that are still alive but irretrievably "gone".
Expecto Patronum, or the Patronus Charm, will cast a Patronus, which can appear as simply white vapour, or in more advanced casters, as a silvery-white animal shape. If it takes the shape of an animal, it is called a corporeal Patronus. This spell is used to ward off Dementors, which are the guardians of Azkaban.
Harry describes Umbridge to Sirius Black, saying that she's vile enough to be a Death Eater, despite not being one. Umbridge is also depicted to be a prejudiced person, despising half-breeds and Muggle-born witches and wizards to the point of firing Hagrid due to his half-giant birth status.
Dementors aren't technically alive, like Boggarts or Poltergeists. JKR said, "You cannot destroy Dementors, though you can limit their numbers if you eradicate the conditions in which they multiply, ie, despair and degradation."
The Dementor is simply unable to perform the kiss on a wizard who has a Horcrux. Voldemort is unaffected and has a good laugh at the silly Dementor.
Avada Kedavra is basically a killing curse, which 'kills' the target. In Harry Potter wiki, it is mentioned that no one could succeed in killing a dementor with the killing curse. Finally, let us conclude Expecto patronum is greater than Avada Kedavra. Happiness and joys conquer hate.
Milk chocolate contains high levels of milk solids, and milk solids contain fats. Eating foods with lots of fats can release prostaglandins that actually worsen cramps. As such, it's best to opt for an alternative to milk chocolate while menstruating - like dark chocolate.
A theory posted on Reddit suggests Dementors were drawn to Harry because they could sense the piece of Voldemort's soul living in him. Harry is an “accidental horcrux”, created when the killing curse casted by Voldemort backfired, fragmented his soul, and sent a piece of it to Harry's body.
He is the first person known to have escaped the wizard prison by his own means, accomplishing this feat by transforming into his Animagus dog form. The dementors' inability to detect Animagi, along with his severe weight loss from malnutrition, allow him to slip through his cell bars.
